HOME SERIES: DESIGN*SPONGE DELIVERS

All hail the chief.....well, or just "thanks," Design*Sponge.  I was really excited to see my house published on the reigning design site.  If you didn't get to see the post, check it out HERE!

I have put up a few of the photos of my house that didn't make the post for you here as well.  I'd love to tell you more about putting things together in my house, so please feel free to ask questions here in the comments.....and remember I'm taking clients for interior design projects and would love to here from you!!!  xxoo

This chair is from West Elm and I added the big Euro cushion and had my friend Jesse Kamm's linen tortoise shell fabric made into a sham.  I wanted to connect the black and white theme into a part of this room, so we exchanged babysitting for an edition of the print done with black ink on white linen.

USE WHAT YOU HAVE.....

My motto.  My house is full of created style without having to purchase new things.  I've worked with hand-me-downs and edited the things that I do have or grouped them to make something special and visually pleasing.  Here are some examples of ways to create a beautiful space using something you might just already have.

I love the use of these black and white photographs to not only create a piece of art all its own, but it also creates shape and interest that add to the whole of this vignette.  The second photo is totally different with its use of postcards to create a very balanced grid and creates another great visual effect.  Lastly, a girl after my own heart.....having too many magazines and books is a theme in our house, so I love it when people use these collections of mundane items to make something architectural or into a piece of furniture.

TILE LOVE

I love the use of these hexagonal tiles in this home in Italy designed by Grooppo. Also love how everything is offset by the simple dark trim.

its a fine little day

I've had such a fun week so far.....Camille Styles came over with her crew and shot Travis and I for her blog.  The cute Chelsea Fullerton did the photography.  She is also a graphic design genius, so you should check out her company Go Forth Creative.  I'll let you know when Camille has us posted!

Speaking of Graphic and Design:  Eliza Chaiken responded to my post about black and white wallpaper and gave me the scoop on where to get the black and white trees wallpaper!!!  Check it......the whole site it amazing......of course it is Swedish.......OF COURSE......!

Its Fine Little Day, and here are a few things I like from the site..........

its black, its white, its wallpaper

So, yes, I admit that I have a bit of a black and white obsession, fetish, or my eyes may call it a "calling".  So, I have chosen two images that I love and for mostly the reason of the lovely black and white wallpaper that I am asking my readers to fill in the blank.  Since I am busy with other work this week, please help me with these wallpaper designs and tell me if you know who makes them!  The first person that knows ones of them, will receive a plug on the blog for their pet project.  So, help me out!!!!

historic austin

The images of this historic home in Austin caught my attention and turned me onto watching Tim Cuppett Architecture and stay up with whatever Tim is working on.  I think he did an exceptional job on this home.  There are details in it that actually look similar to my house, maybe that is why I like the design so much.  Hey, when you know your taste, you know your self....ha!
The other thing this homestead has in common with mine is that it has been moved and this one was moved twice in semi-recent history.  Apparently the updates after moving were not done well, so Cuppett had to renovate and do a better job of restoring and complimenting the original structure.

welcome to my home!

My Home Series.....
Come on in...make yourself cozy.....grab a seat.  This is the entry to our house built in 1905.  It was moved and updated in 1991, so it has some features that are not original and not as great as the original would have been, but the builder was a restorer of old homes and tried to keep it in the same Victorian style.  Since moving in, we have done a little updating ourselves to make it just a little more contemporary and ours.  Here we are - a shot taken from inside the front door.

As mentioned before, we painted the walls white from a yellow and more recently also the trim to a true white (Behr -"Frost") from a very very off-white, then all the doors Black (Behr -"Beluga").  I put in this cordless white roller mess sunshade and think it looks nice and simple.  The light fixture was a more recent purchase and I bought on Etsy from Jean Pelle.  The long hand-made bench was a find from Sacramento, from the antique mart, where I found lots of unrecognized gems.  I chalked up the finds in old Sactown to not a high demand for style, so the prices seemed fantastic after living in NY and I had great luck there (one of the few perks). The rug was a hand-me-down from my every-so-stylish mamacita.  She has a lot of great rugs, which we will have to showcase later in a post. Nice to be the child of a mom with taste!
These posters I bought at the Renegade Craft Fair and were printed by a creative group that offices together and calls themselves "Public School" in Austin.  I framed them in red, thinking I wanted some color in the entry, as well as a contemporary juxtaposition to the Victorian details.  Simple.
